I LOVE SATSANG

While it does require some discipline to practice alone I would like to share with you why I think the shared class experience is so important too.

What is “Satsang” (“contact with the Real”)?

A: (1) being in the company of the “highest truth” (2) company with an assembly of persons who listen to, talk about and assimilate the truth (3) the time honored practice of associating with adepts and saintly folks. Contact with them is thought to be purifying and uplifting and to stimulate the spiritual process.

The little Satsang that is a Bikram Yoga class are like a focus group all learning for shared liberation! We are all the same in this Satsang; we are all teachers and we are all students. We all have our own stories that we bring to our mat. We are all teaching each other what little we know.   ‘Expertise’ is the communal practice and any acquired is impermanent. Just like everything else in this world and life. So we are not reading Yoga scriptures or discussing their meaning in class but a Bikram Yoga class can be likened to a Satsang; a little community; looking after its new people; smiling at them, encouraging them, helping them, boosting their effort, influencing them positively.   This influential community is a very powerful force helping the less experienced to recognize their own power; eventually bringing what is absorbed into one’s daily life.  Such support can also be very therapeutic.

I love Satsang.
