Bendy Wendy

~ ITS WORLD POETRY 2014 ~
So here is a poem for all ages
(Especially 6 ½ and 43 ¾ year olds)

Bendy Wendy was born supple and strong
A long line of Yogi’s is where she comes from
Older than she looks, yet STILL FIT and ABLE
With a neat backward bend can limber under a table!

Up on the hillside for ALL to see
On a Yoga mat in a clearing by a tall tree
Bendy Wendy holds poses in shapes of the animals
Like rabbits and tortoises, cobras, eagles and camels 

Nicknamed ‘Barmy Wendy’ by the folk from the town
(They thought she was crazy stretching up and down)
No-one more so than the governor’s son James
Who would make fun of Wendy by calling her names 

BUT one day from a cliff ledge James FALL’S DOWN
No one can reach him – not even ‘Tall Man of Town’
Wendy steps forward and says “I’ll try and help”
And with a deep BREATH and STRETCH catches James by the belt !

James is SAVED and the town’s folk are thrilled
Back on safe ground with no more tears spilled
The governor says “A GREAT LESSON HAS BEEN LEARNED”
And Wendy MUST TEACH YOGA to everyone concerned !

THE END
